Case Report

A case report is an observational, descriptive type of report that provides details on a single case or a few cases. It may describe a case with an uncommon presentation of a known condition or with a novel condition. A case report usually provides details on the symptoms, signs, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of the case within the real-world clinical setting.

When multiple case reports concerning the same or a similar uncommon/novel presentation are merged into one document, this is called a case series.

The goal of a case report is to make data on rare cases publicly available, which potentially generates new research questions and stimulates critical thinking and problem-solving or decision-making skills. This way, it may steer further research. However, as no formal analyses can follow from case reports or series, no relations or associations of any kind can be deduced from this type of study.

Emtex Life Science medical writers can help you with the development and submission of a well-written case report or case series that meets all requirements of any target journal of choice.
